Jamaal Charles – Running Back (Released)

It is the end of an era for the Kansas City Chiefs as running back Jamaal Charles was released. The superstar running back had been the face of the Chiefs for years. However, in recent seasons, there was no denying that his career was coming to an end. Charles has been hampered by injuries over the past two seasons.

The silver lining, if any, here is that the split between player and team appears to be as amicable as possible. The Chiefs gave Charles an early release which allows him to go interview with teams immediately. It also means that there shouldn’t be any hard feelings against the organization in the locker room.

The Chiefs are saving over $6 million in cap space because of this move, and it is not a stretch to say that is why they were able to get Eric Berry re-signed. Sometimes a team has to make moves like this. Jamaal Charles will get his chance somewhere else, but he will always be a beloved member of Chiefs Kingdom.
