Laurent Duvernay-Tardif – Guard (Extended)

It may have caught some by surprise, but the Kansas City Chiefs getting Laurent Duvernay-Tardif signed to an extension is good news. This locks up the Chiefs starting offensive line for the next couple of years. That is huge for the cohesion of the unit. Regardless of who the Chiefs have in at quarterback over the next few years, they should have a quality offensive line to work with.

Larry Tardif is essentially putting his dreams of becoming a doctor on hold, despite finishing medical school this year. The Canadian-born guard has stated bluntly that he intends to finish out his playing career first. That is excellent news for the Chiefs as his new deal is for five years.

This should go down as a big win for John Dorsey. Extensions usually open up some salary cap room, but not in this case. However, that is secondary to the fact that the Kansas City starting offensive line is a stable unit for the first time in years. There should be no surprises come the start of Training Camp.
