Nick Foles – Quarterback (Released)

In what was a largely expected move, the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly chosen not to pick up the option on quarterback Nick Foles. The veteran backup was set to be owed $6.75 million if the Chiefs chose to keep him on board. With financial needs in other areas, this decision seems to have been a pretty simple one.

The Chiefs definitely got their money’s worth out of Foles while he was on the roster though. Had it not been for the journeyman quarterback, it is debatable whether or not KC would have beaten either the Colts or Jaguars. However, it is not a stretch at all to say that his purpose was fulfilled.

It will be interesting to see where Nick Foles ends up. NFL Network’s Greg Rosenthal has Foles as a “sneaky candidate to be a Week 1 starter”. Don’t get your hopes up on a compensatory pick for that though. Foles will count as a “cut” in the official books, which means he doesn’t factor into the compensatory pick calculations.
