Kansas City Chiefs: Last Ten Quarterbacks Taken in NFL Draft
MIKE ELKINS – Second Round Pick (32nd Overall) in 1989 NFL Draft
Three years before the Chiefs gambled on Blundin, they went with another second round quarterback in Mike Elkins. Elkins attended Wake Forest and spent one season with the Chiefs.
In that season, Elkins appeared in one game, which saw him attempt two passes. One of those passes was intercepted.
Elkins was let go after the 1989 season and spent a year out of football. In 1991, he joined the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football and spent time with the Browns in the same year.
Elkins’ final NFL action came with the Houston Oilers in 1992. He was out of football after that season.
Kind of crazy that the Chiefs swung and missed on two quarterbacks, both of whom were selected in the second round and could have possibly been the answer to the Chiefs prayers at the position.
