Kansas City Chiefs: A Team Not Even At Its Peak Yet
By Ben Almquist
Allen Bailey
One of the earliest blows to the Kansas City Chiefs this year was the loss of defensive end stalwart Allen Bailey. If ever there were a man suited to the nickname “Big Country”, it would be Bailey. A resident of Sapelo Island in Georgia, the big man is noted for wrestling linemen on the field, and alligators off of it.
Allen Bailey has been a reliable defensive lineman for the Chiefs the past couple of years. His play earned him a four year contract extension in 2014. He has developed nicely as both a run stopper and a pass rusher, using his near freakish strength to move blockers out of his way.
Oddly enough though, getting Allen Bailey back is basically just a case of the rich getting richer. This season has seen the emergence of both rookie Chris Jones and second year man Rakeem Nunez-Roaches. Injuries have allowed these to young players to get more opportunities, and they have shined. Adding Bailey to that mix will leave the Chiefs in a pretty enviable situation of rotating starters without a drop off in production or talent.
