The Royals rumors have been hot over the past week and the latest involves the KC Royals being interested in adding Aaron Hill to their roster.

The Kansas City Royals are interested in yet another name on the free agent market and the newest is infielder Aaron Hill. The news came via Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, who wrote,

"Hill, who was well-received by the Red Sox last season after he was acquired from the Brewers, has yet to surface with another team. But a few teams are in the market for a utility infielder, including the Braves and Royals."

Hill has spent time at second base, third base, and at shortstop during his 12-year major league career. He split time with the Brewers and Red Sox last season and fared better in Milwaukee with a .283 batting average compared to his .218 average with Boston.

Should the Royals acquire Hill, it could mean that a trade of Mike Moustakas is inevitable, as I mentioned this past weekend. With Cheslor Cuthbert and Hunter Dozier also able to play third, Hill would be a swing man who could also spend time at second base.

Connor Byrne of MLB Trade Rumors wrote,

"Free agent second baseman/third baseman Aaron Hill is on the radar of a few teams, and Atlanta and Kansas City could be among them, per Cafardo. Hill, 34, spent last season between Milwaukee and Boston, with which he combined to hit .262/.336/.378 with 10 home runs in 429 plate appearances."

Hill is an interesting free agent to be looking at this offseason. He was a hot hitter with the Brewers last season, but struggled when batting for the Red Sox.

Hill has had good offensive seasons while in the majors, but he’ll turn 35 years old before the first pitch is thrown for the Kansas City Royals in the regular season.

Obviously acquiring Hill would likely mean that Moustakas would be traded elsewhere and Hill would spend some time manning that third base. He also could be used as a designated hitter as well.

Other Royals rumors out there are that the Royals are looking at Trevor Plouffe, which could signify either Moustakas or Eric Hosmer being sent to another team due to his ability to play first and third base.

While it’s been nice seeing Dayton Moore be aggressive and still try to add guys this offseason, I’m not sure I’m fond of adding a guy who’s about to turn 35. His hitting has been decent though and maybe he could find his niche in Kansas City.

The biggest question for Dayton Moore and the Kansas City Royals, however, will be if signing this guy is worth the team then having to trade away its key third baseman. Maybe this is as good as time as any though.
