Royals rumors are still flying and the latest involves the Kansas City Royals making yet another trade this offseason. They’re sending outfielder Jarrod Dyson to the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Nathan Karns.

Earlier this morning, I posted an article on how trade talks regarding outfielder and speedster Jarrod Dyson had quieted down. Now I feel responsible for this trade happening. Only not really because this was a trade that was inevitably going to happen at some point.

This trade boiled down to what the Royals could get for Dyson, and they found a deal they liked with Seattle. It’ll be a straight player for player trade with the KC Royals sending Jarrod Dyson to Seattle for pitcher Nathan Karns.

Mariners beat reporter Bob Dutton had the news first on Friday afternoon.

Dyson had become a loved member of the Kansas City Royals, spending his entire career with the club up to this point. The 32 year old was most known for his “That’s what speed do” motto during the 2014 playoff run.

Despite the love the Royals have for Dyson, this is absolutely the right time to trade him away. He’s 32 and doesn’t even play in the outfield every day. His speed is also replaceable with other fast guys on the team like Terrance Gore, Raul Mondesi Jr., and Paulo Orlando.

The guy the Royals are acquiring is Nathan Karns. Karns is a pitcher who has bounced around the league the last few seasons. He struggled with Seattle last season, posting a 5.15 ERA in 94.1 innings. He struck out 101 batters, had a 6-2 record, and even recorded a save during the 2016 campaign.

More from Royals Rumors

It’s understandable why Royals fans won’t like this move, but trust Dayton Moore and trust the system.

He’s showing that he doesn’t want 2017 to be the last year in the window and wants the team to continue to build and grow so that they can be contenders past this upcoming season. Isn’t that what any fanbase wants to see from their team?

For being a 50th round draft pick in 2006, Dyson sure was a great pick for the KC Royals. His name had been linked to Royals rumors basically since the hot stove talk began and now it’s official. Jarrod Dyson is no longer a member of the Kansas City Royals.

I’m not sure what to make of this trade yet quite honestly. I like that the Royals went out and got something for an aging player and pitching is a need for the team right now.

Karns spent time in the rotation and in the bullpen last season and my guess would be that he’d be put in the pen for the Royals. If so, Dayton is fulfilling his promise on rebuilding that bullpen that used to be so dominant.

I know losing players from that World Series team is tough, but trust the general manager, Royals fans. He’s shown that he knows the recipe for success and it was best to get something for Dyson while there was still a team interested in trading for him.

Thanks for everything, Mr. Zoombiya! Best of luck to you in Seattle, man.
