The Kansas City Chiefs did something they hadn’t done since the 2010 season this past weekend – They won the AFC West. Not only did the Chiefs win the division, they swept it.

In 2010, the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West title in the final week of the season. That season saw the Chiefs go 10-6 under Todd Haley and Matt Cassel in a season in which the Chiefs were abysmal on the road.

Kansas City benefited from a cupcake schedule that season and eventually everyone saw they weren’t ready for the spotlight when they got shellacked on their home field in the Wild Card Round against the Ravens.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I sure didn’t think that’d be the last time the Chiefs would win the division for six years. They were a missed field goal away from winning it again in 2011 and last season came one game short of stealing it from the Denver Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs truly are the best in a very, very tough division.

The 2016 season is a different type of AFC West title for the KC Chiefs because they actually deserved it this season and it MEANS something. They didn’t have an easy schedule, they won tough games, and they made the national media talk about them even if they are one of the more boring teams in the league.

In a division where week 12 saw its leader with an 8-2 record and two other teams with 7-3 records, we all knew this division would come down to the final week to decide who would wear the crown.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs did their part and swept the AFC West, the first time they’ve done that since 1995. They went 5-1 last year in the division, with the one loss coming to the Broncos early in the season.

So, to sum up, the Chiefs have lost one divisional game in two seasons. That’s dominance, my friends.

This year the Chiefs owned the AFC West and they finally have the crown to show for it. They’ll have the number-two seed heading into the playoffs, which means they have a first-round bye and can sit back and enjoy the Wild Card weekend.

Arrowhead Stadium will then play host to the higher seed to come out of the AFC Wild Card round (more than likely the Pittsburgh Steelers, but you never know). It’ll be an exciting time for Kansas City and for Chiefs Kingdom.

The last time the Chiefs won the AFC West, I was a sophomore in college. The Royals were crap, Missouri and Nebraska were both still in the Big 12, and there were only 36 NOW That’s What I Call Music CDs released (there are 60 now).

So, enjoy this, Chiefs Kingdom, you deserve it. The Kansas City Chiefs truly are the best in a very, very tough division. They earned that number two seed fair and square.

Time to put up or shut up now in the postseason.
