You Broke Your Coach

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers both had huge hires at head coach in 2013. Andy Reid, of course, wound up with the Chiefs, but many analysts were more excited about Mike McCoy going to the Chargers. At the time, McCoy was considered the hottest coordinator out there, and was a slam dunk for San Diego to pair with Philip Rivers.

Oh yeah, the Chargers also drafted Keenan Allen that year.

What has happened since then? Well, both teams made the playoffs in 2013. However, since then, the two teams have been on totally different trajectories. The Chiefs have emerged as legit Super Bowl contenders and a perennial playoff team. The Chargers are now the lone blemish on one of the best divisions in football. The Chargers are rebounding off of a 4-12 season with a 5-10 (soon to be 11) year.

What does that mean? Well it means Mike McCoy is probably about to be sent packing. That’s gotta feel good for the guy that McCoy was set to build his offensive attack around! Keenan Allen was the first pick of the McCoy era in San Diego, and now he’s about to watch his coach get fired…again, from the comfort of his own couch.
