The Kansas City Chiefs lost a winnable game on Sunday to the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs had several opportunities to put the Titans away, but couldn’t execute. They’re now sitting as the fifth-seed in the playoffs.

For those of you who haven’t been reading my material for the past few years, you probably remember me recently proclaiming my confidence for this team. I wrote after their big win against the Raiders that I was thinking Super Bowl for sure.

Well, the old Leigh is back after this most recent game against the Titans. That meaning I’m once again skeptical of this team ever making it to the promise land.

Look – This is one of the best KC Chiefs teams I can remember, but holy cow that game on Sunday was painful to watch.

The first two offensive drives were fantastic, but after that, it honestly seemed like the Chiefs were ready to go home and sit in front of the fireplace for the rest of the day. It was brutal.

Let’s take a look at how everyone graded out in this weekend’s game.

F. . QB. . ALEX SMITH

Because the quarterback is the most critiqued position, I figured I’d get to Alex Smith first.

Alex Smith was awful on Sunday. If there’s a word worse than awful, then he was that. He was that times ten.

This is all coming from someone who actually likes Smith and usually jumps to his defense. I can’t find a reason to do that at the moment, as the guy played horribly on Sunday.

While I still believe the Kansas City Chiefs can win with Smith as their quarterback, my patience, along with everyone else’s in Chiefs Kingdom, is starting to wear thin.

Smith looked good on the first two possessions, but disappeared after that. He ended the day with 15 completions (out of 28 attempts) for 163 yards, a rushing touchdown, and an interception.

That interception was the worst, as it came in the red zone and gave the Titans all of the momentum in the world. Smith threw another pick like that against Tampa Bay and it resulted in the same thing – A bad home loss to a team that the Chiefs should have picked apart.

While I still believe the Kansas City Chiefs can win with Smith as their quarterback, my patience, along with everyone else’s in Chiefs Kingdom, is starting to wear thin. It’s okay to have bad games, but this has been a bit of a trend for Smith so far this season and it came at a bad time this week.

Smith had been wheeling and dealing against bad secondaries the past few weeks, but couldn’t execute against a piss poor Titans secondary, that was ranked second to last in the league. Ugh!

Do better, Alex. Do better.
