CHRISTIAN COLON

Christian Colon is an interesting name here in Kansas City. On the one hand, we all love him because he’s been apart of two HUGE moments for the organization.

He might just not be “every day starter” material, unfortunately.

On the other hand, though, Colon hasn’t lived up to being a first round draft pick, and when you consider the fact that the Royals could have had Chris Sale with that pick, yeah it stings a little.

Colon, now 27, has never amassed 150 at bats during his career. He’s only hit one home run during his time in the majors and has consistently been shifted around from second base to shortstop to third base.

It’s really like the Royals have no idea what to do with Colon, but I do think the guy could see a significant amount of time at second due to the fact that he is probably the most experienced guy on the team. He might just not be “every day starter” material, unfortunately.

In 2016, Colon had a 5.0 Ultimate Zone Rating at second base, showing that he has the ability to play the position well. What’s holding Colon back is his offensive struggles, as he only batted .231 last year in 54 games.

While Colon isn’t an offensive stud, he might just be the best answer defensively at second base, and we all know that’s what the Royals like on the diamond.
