Chris Jones: Defensive Rookie Of The Year
When the Kansas City Chiefs traded out of the first round in the 2016 NFL Draft, many fans were disappointed. Well, it appears that move has paid off as we have witnessed rookie second round pick Chris Jones dominate at times. The big defensive lineman out of Mississippi State has literally thrown around veteran offensive linemen this season.
If Chris Jones claims this award, it is largely going to be on the back of highlight films that have sprung up around the internet. As far as the mainstream respect goes, he just isn’t getting it yet. That is due to the fact that Jones just doesn’t have the fancy stats that ESPN, CBS, and other networks look for.
As far as the chances of Chris Jones winning this award, they aren’t great. Simply put, he doesn’t have the name recognition to win, and that is directly tied to that lack of “sexy” stats. However, those who study football and truly break it down seem to be in agreement that Jones is a legit superstar in the making.
Will He Win It?: Jones will finish as one of the top rated defensive rookies, but not as a finalist for this award.
