As the Kansas City Chiefs close in on the end of the regular season, several players are in the running for postseason awards. Here is where they stand.

It has been a strong season for the Kansas City Chiefs. So it should come as no surprise that there are a number of players in the running for postseason awards. With just a few weeks left in the season, these select players will likely be stepping up their performances. While NFL players will tell you they don’t pay attention to these things, we all know better.

I’ll squash the obvious right off the bat. There are no Chiefs who should be in the running for either Most Valuable Player or Offensive Player Of The Year. There just isn’t anyone with the credentials for it. Now, that isn’t an invitation to harp on Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin, or bemoan the loss of Jamaal Charles. It’s just the situation for what it is.

However, there are several Chiefs in the running for other awards. These are mostly on the defensive side of the ball, which is hardly surprising. Kansas City has placed an emphasis on being a talented defensive unit for quite a while now. Through that philosophy, the Chiefs have accumulated some of the best defensive players in the NFL.

There are, of course, plenty of players around the league that will have something to say about the Chiefs going after these awards. However, that doesn’t preclude Kansas City players from the conversation, even if they aren’t likely winners.
