Terrance Mitchell – CB

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the star of the Kansas City Chiefs defense this past Thursday night was defensive back Terrance Mitchell. With five tackles and two pass defenses, his stat sheet doesn’t really jump out at you. However, Mitchell had an amazing day by holding Raiders star receiver Amari Cooper to just five catches and 29 yards on 10 targets. That’s impressive.

There had been a lot of initial concern about the young corner being put up against Cooper. Terrance Mitchell is on his fourth team in just a three year career. It would hardly have been a surprise if Mitchell had gotten torched all night. Instead, the young man took advantage of his new opportunity and rose to the occassion.

If the name Marcus Cooper is flashing through your head, it’s for good reason. This is an almost identical story for the Chiefs. Mitchell is coming to the team as a “scrap heap” addition from this offseason. The Chiefs brought the young corner in for Training Camp and he made the team as a member of the Practice Squad. Due to various issues at corner this year, he was able to make the main roster.

With the performance Terrrance Mitchell put up this past week he has certainly earned more starting opportunities this year. The Chiefs have Mitchell signed through the 2017 season, so he will definitely get another very good chance to make the roster. Hopefully he can become John Dorsey’s latest success story.
