What Happened With Conley?

Kansas City Chiefs fans were notably excited about the potential of Chris Conley when he was drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. An explosive receiver with the right kind of build, it was thought he could add a deep threat to the roster. However, over the past two years, that deep threat has yet to emerge.

Now, there is a prevailing thought that it takes about three years for a player to develop into an NFL-ready talent. That could be the case with Chris Conley. However, the concern here isn’t just that Conley hasn’t become that deep threat as expected. He also hasn’t been able to tailor his game effectively to the Chiefs offense. Kansas City needed him to do one or the other.

The Chiefs have needed an outside threat to step up this year with Jeremy Maclin struggling with a groin injury. That player really needed to be Chris Conley. However, Conley has posted just 380 yards receiving and no touchdowns through 13 games. That just isn’t acceptable. Fortunately for the Chiefs, another player has stepped up.
