Kansas City Chiefs: Making A Change At Wide Receiver
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs are not getting enough production from Chris Conley. Perhaps it is time to give rookie Tyreek Hill more opportunities.
When the Kansas City Chiefs hired Andy Reid as the new head coach, fans got excited over the possibilities with the passing game. That excitement grew with the signing of Jeremy Maclin and drafting of the talented Chris Conley. However, Conley has yet to deliver on his promising athletic talent while rookie Tyreek Hill has emerged as a legitimate threat. Perhaps it is time to start considering a change.
This shouldn’t be seen as “giving up” on Chris Conley. I think he can still offer a lot to the roster as a depth receiver coming out in various packages. However, it is undeniable that the Chiefs needed him to step up this year and he simply hasn’t done so. With Jeremy Maclin struggling this season, Kansas City needed someone else to carry the load. That has not been Conley.
On the other end of the spectrum, rookie Tyreek Hill has been everything he was advertised as and more on the field. Hill has emerged as not only a big play threat, but also as a reliable receiver who can make plays at every level. The Chiefs have found a multitude of ways to get him involved in the offensive game plan, and it keeps working out.
When one player isn’t working out, and another is stepping up, you have to consider making a change. That’s just the reality of the NFL. With Chris Conley being a third round pick, this isn’t really an Earth-shattering move either. It’s a fifth round pick surpassing a third round pick. That is hardly unheard of in professional football.
