Royals Rumors: Wade Davis and Jarrod Dyson Could Be Traded
The Royals rumors are beginning to heat up and the latest deals with not one, but two members of the Kansas City Royals. Closer Wade Davis and outfielder Jarrod Dyson could be on their way out of Kansas City.
Just the other day, I wrote an article on how Jarrod Dyson was being eyed by other teams in Major League Baseball. Teams liked Dyson’s speed and affordability, and the Royals really don’t need him due to acquiring Billy Burns last season.
Now Nick Cafardo of Boston Globe reports that both Dyson and Wade Davis could be sent elsewhere within the next week.
The Royals are at winter meetings right now and that means that trades could be getting talked about and issued. Here is what Cafardo had to say about this particular trade in his lengthy article,
"The Royals could deal both closer Wade Davis and outfielder Jarrod Dyson within a week. They are looking for controllable starting pitching. Davis will draw plenty of teams, including the Giants, Red Sox, and Blue Jays."
We’ve been hearing since July how the Royals could end up parting ways with Wade Davis. There’s a good chance the closer would have been traded this past summer had he not landed on the disabled list.
Both of these players being traded away makes sense. Davis is clutch obviously, but he showed signs of slowing down last season. He hit the disabled list twice and definitely wasn’t the Wade Davis of old.

Not to mention the Royals have Kelvin Herrera, who filled in for Davis as the closer last season. Herrera did well in his absence and wouldn’t be a step down from Davis at all.
As for Dyson, the KC Royals went out and traded for Burns during the deadline, and Burns is essentially a younger version of Dyson.
They have plenty of other guys who can pinch run, so that’s not a reason to keep Dyson in town. Burns was brought in to eventually replace Dyson, and we might be coming to that time.
If the Royals can get something for Dyson, they need to do it while they can.
Cafardo mentioned above how the Royals are looking for starting pitching, and that’s a good sign to see being reported. There’s still a notable fifth spot open in the rotation, but it’d be nice to see the team bring in someone with experience and that can stay healthy for the duration of the season.
Ken Rosenthal jumped in on the Wade Davis trade speculation and Royals rumors, noting that several teams will be interested in the closer.
The appealing part with Davis is that he’s not going to demand the type of money that other closers on the market will. He’s affordable and he still likely has at least one more year of dominant closing ability.
Like Dyson, the Royals should part ways with him while he’s still worth something. Hopefully they learned their lesson with Joakim Soria back in 2011.

Sure, the 2017 season is an “all-in” kind of season, but if the Kansas City Royals can trade Davis and Dyson and get a decent starting pitcher in return – I’d say that’s worth it. Davis won’t be WadeBot forever and the team acquired Dyson’s younger self during the deadline last summer.
What do you think of trading Wade Davis and Jarrod Dyson for starting pitching? Are you for or against it?
