In the latest slew of Royals rumors, teams have expressed interest in outfielder and speedster Jarrod Dyson. Will the Kansas City Royals trade him to another team this offseason?

The Kansas City Royals still consider themselves to be World Series contenders in 2017. Yet, even with that last sentence uttered throughout Major League Baseball, the Royals are still being asked about parting ways with one of their pieces.

The latest name, however, might make sense to see the Royals trade off, and that guy is Jarrod Dyson.

According to Jerry Crasnick on Twitter and Jason Fletcher of Hardball Scoop, other teams have been asking the Royals about Dyson’s availability.

At the moment, Dyson is likely going to continue platooning in right field with Paulo Orlando. The Royals have put it out there that they won’t be aggressive in free agency, so the chances of them signing an every day right fielder aren’t the likeliest.

Personally – I could see this going either way.

Yes, Dyson had a decent season at the plate last year, but he’s 32 years old (will turn 33 during the season) and the Royals basically traded for the younger version of him in Billy Burns last summer. With Burns on the team now, the Royals can afford to part ways with Dyson.

At the same time, however, and this is less of a baseball observation than it is a social observation, but Dyson is good friends with guys like Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, and Mike Moustakas. Should Dyson be traded off, that could be one less reason for those three guys to want to re-sign with the Royals.

More from Kansas City Royals

I feel like that last observation isn’t one that would affect the front office’s decision should they decide to trade Dyson, but it’s something to keep an eye on when the rest of those guys hit the free agent market.

Dyson slashed .278/.340/.388 in 107 games last season, his best career slash line to this point. He plated 25 RBI, hit eight triples, and stole 30 bases.

Dyson has always predominantly been the “pinch runner” for the Royals, but they have several other options now in Orlando, Burns, and Terrance Gore. Hell, even Raul Mondesi is fast, but he’ll obviously be an every day starter someday.

The point is that while Dyson is great at pinch running and could be of service there still, it’s not like the Kansas City Royals have no other options to steal bases. They have plenty.

What it’ll likely come down to is if Dayton Moore feels the team could survive with an Orlando and maybe a Burns platoon in right field. Defensively that might not be the best, but the Royals should consider making a move like this soon before no one is asking.

What do you think, Royals fans? Should the team trade Jarrod Dyson?
