AFC Playoffs 1st Seed: Oakland Raiders (8-2)

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs fans watched in horror this week as the Oakland Raiders were gifted a win over the Texans. That victory puts the Raiders in control of the AFC West at 8-2. They currently hold the #1 overall seed in the AFC playoff race. It is a far cry from the team that hasn’t posted a winning record in 14 years.

Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, it seems unlikely that the Raiders will relinquish their hold on the division. Oakland still has games against the Chiefs and Broncos remaining on their schedule, but should win the rest of their match ups. However, the Raiders seem to play every game close. There is a chance that starts to blow up in their face a bit.

The Raiders have turned their franchise around in a big way. Between drafting well and hiring the right free agents, Oakland has built a solid squad that can compete with the top teams. Between that and a relatively soft remaining schedule, the Raiders will be tough to overtake for that #1 spot in the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs remain in the thick of the AFC playoff picture. However, the Chiefs need to play very well over the next few weeks to get some breathing room within the division. Winning the AFC West has to be their primary goal right now. That starts next week against the Denver Broncos.
