Kansas City Chiefs: Five Trades To Consider Before the Deadline
By Ben Almquist
Ahmad Brooks – OLB – San Francisco 49ers
Chiefs Give: DeAnthony Thomas – WR
If the Kansas City Chiefs want to make a deep run into the playoffs, they are going to need some help with their pass rush. Even with Justin Houston coming back soon, the Chiefs need to be able to find a consistent rusher to compliment him. Dee Ford has not shown that ability and Tamba Hali is no longer an every down player. Ahmad Brooks of the 49ers might be the answer.

The deal makes sense for the 49ers for a few reasons. The 49ers are looking to rebuild and need pieces to make that happen. Brooks has been a good player for the team, but his future production for San Fran is limited and the 49ers could use the cap space. In return, the 49ers get a DeAnthony Thomas who knows Chip Kelly’s offense and can help set things in motion.
This is a solid trade that helps both teams out pretty evenly. The Chiefs get some pass rush help that will be key in the postseason. The 49ers get a young weapon already familiar with Chip Kelly’s scheme. Meanwhile, neither team is giving up much as San Fran is trading an aging veteran with limited value to the team and the Chiefs are sending over a player largely phased out in their offense.

The Kansas City Chiefs are poised to make a run in the playoffs. The right addition to the roster could help put them over the top. The Chiefs can still be competitive without any of these players. However, a little insurance is not a bad idea. KC should have the resources to be able to make a deal happen if they decide to.
