Hisashi Iwakuma

Hisashi Iwakuma is someone that I could actually see the KC Royals going after in free agency. He’s on the older side (turning 36 in April), but would be much more affordable than Rich Hill.

Iwakuma could be the type of guy that the Royals sign to a one-year deal and see what he’s still made of. He’s capable of eating up innings, tossing nearly 190 this year with a 4.04 ERA.

He’s still an effective pitcher, but his age and past health issues would be a concern and something to look into. If the Royals were to sign Iwakuma, it’d have to be to a one-year deal because anything more would be too risky.

The guy can still pitch, but at his age and with past injuries, any team signing him would be taking a major risk.

This is an option that the Royals might actually go with, but as mentioned above, could backfire.
