KC Royals: Free Agent Pitchers to Target During Offseason
Andrew Cashner
Andrew Cashner is one of those guys that always seems to be looked upon highly, but hasn’t delivered. He’s currently sporting a career ERA of 3.88, but he’s been really spotty over the last few years.
This season, Cashner had an ERA of 4.76 before being traded to the Marlins at the deadline. He’s fairing even worse in Miami with a 6.18 ERA.
While the Royals will need a fifth guy in their rotation, Andrew Cashner hopefully won’t be that guy. He’ll want more money than he’s worth and has proven that he’s not on a good path right now with his pitching performances.
If the Royals wound up with a guy like Cashner, it’d be better for them to just stick with Edinson Volquez if possible. Volquez has had success in recent years while Cashner has struggled mightily. He’d be a waste of a big contract, and fans would turn on him quickly.
