DaRon Brown – WR – 2nd Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled to put together a competent wide receiver corps.  So when Da’Ron Brown was selected in the 7th round of the 2015 NFL Draft, many Chiefs fans assume he would stick around.  That remained true even when Brown went to the Practice Squad last year.  However, the young talent on the roster in 2016 was enough that the Chiefs let Brown go this year.

There were a lot of reports about Da’Ron Brown looking much improved in training camp this year.  However, the second year wide receiver never really progressed on the depth chart.  That is more a sign of the influx of talent for the Chiefs than anything regarding Brown.  Clearly he worked hard to develop.  The Chiefs just found better options.

This is yet another good sign for the Chiefs.  For all intents and purposes, Da’Ron Brown should have had an inside track on a roster spot.  However, the additions of Demarcus Robinson and Tyreek Hill, especially, put a huge hurdle in Brown’s way.  Simply put, Robinson and Hill have much higher ceilings.

Da’Ron Brown was able to clear waivers and end up on the Chiefs practice squad in 2015.  Will that happen again in 2016?  It is a 50/50 proposition on whether Brown clears waivers, but if he does I do think the Chiefs give him a spot on the Practice Squad.  It never hurts to have that option in case of injuries.
