Kansas City Chiefs Players On The Roster Bubble – Number Eight: Josh Mauga

Kansas City Chiefs inside linebacker Josh Mauga silenced a lot of critics last year by stepping up and playing well in the strong side role next to Derrick Johnson.  He was clearly a better fit in that position than in the playmaking role Johnson takes on.

However, the Chiefs got a quick flash glimpse of the future during Training Camp, preseason, and the early part of the season as two rookies, Ramik Wilson and Justin March showcased some serious potential and talent.  It is very possible that these two players will hold down the inside linebacker roles for the Chiefs in the future.

The real question is how far off that future is.  It could be as soon as next month.  That would leave Josh Mauga as an expensive backup.  This may be a situation where there is nothing Mauga can do except go out and play his best.  If March and Wilson have improved though, even Mauga’s best might not be enough.
