Kansas City Chiefs Top Rookies To Watch – Number Two: Keivarae “Ferrari” Russell – Cornerback

The Kansas City Chiefs made their biggest investment at cornerback in the 3rd round when they selected Keivarae Russell from Notre Dame.  A flash and confident player, Russell also brings some big play ability to the position group.

Phillip Gaines will likely get the first shot at replacing Sean Smith, but expect Russell to be right on his heels in the depth chart.  Russell is a talented athlete and shows a good feel for the game.  He’ll need to correct some technique issues that he has before he can get on the field, but the Chiefs secondary coaches have proven they can get these young guys ready.

If Emmitt Thomas and Al Harris can get Russell up to speed quickly, expect there to be a bit of a rotation at the corner spot, unless Phillip Gaines can lock the position down by himself.  It will be a tall order for the Chiefs, and that spot looks to be tested a lot this year.
