Kansas City Chiefs Top Rookies To Watch – Number Three: Chris Jones – Defensive Line

Chiefs General Manager, John Dorsey, is nothing if not practical.  With the impending contract years of Dontari Poe, Jaye Howard, and Allen Bailey coming in succession the next few years, Dorsey new he had to re-stock the defensive line.  Which is why he grabbed Chris Jones from Mississippi State in the 2nd round.

Chris Jones will most likely be taking on a rotational role in his first season with the Chiefs, but don’t let that lead you to believe his role won’t be important.  How Jones performs this season could have a major impact on the Chiefs future plans with the defensive line.

Jones will start this year likely competing with Jaye Howard and Allen Bailey at defensive end.  The Chiefs have a number of journeymen also on the roster, but Jones should be able to beat them out for a top spot in the rotation.

If Chris Jones can step up early on, he will give the Chiefs a lot of flexibility in their decision making over the next few years as far as spending money on the defensive line.
