Kansas City Royals: Do Not Be Surprised With Quiet Break
By tdierking
Before you accuse the Royals of trading too many prospects last year start hooting and hollering, hear me out!
The pieces the Royals traded away last year aren’t doing anything that would change the outcome of the team this year.
Let’s start with the shorter list, which is position players. The fact that the Royals are in the mix to get Danny Valencia, again, and Josh Reddick is counter productive with what they currently have.
Josh Reddick first.
Trading for Josh Reddick just doesn’t seem to make much since when you’ve already got an every day right fielder in Paulo Orlando.
Currently, through 52 games Reddick is batting .296/.371/.429 with five home runs. Career wise, Reddick is normally hitting around the .254 mark and has never hit higher than .280 by the end of the year. The Royals will also have to take into consideration that Reddick is also a free agent at the end of this year.
So with all of this Roddick talk, what about Paulo Orlando?
Orlando on the year through 62 games is hitting .324/.347/.417 with one home run. Orlando can also fly while running the bases and the outfield. That is the type of player the Royals front office thrives on.
Granted, this is Orlando’s second year playing at the major league level and he is already 30 years old, he isn’t playing like a player towards the end of their prime. This could be because Orlando started playing in his 20’s and has less ware and tear on his body, but trading for Josh Reddick just doesn’t seem to make much since when you’ve already got an every day right fielder in Paulo Orlando.
Next: The other guy....
