KC Royals: Five Most Surprising Players So Far This Season
Biggest Royals Surprises So Far This Season – Number 3: Danny Duffy
For years, it’s been a bit of a mystery as to what the Kansas City Royals should do with Danny Duffy. Duffy, a third round draft choice by the Royals in 2007, has jumped between the starting rotation and the bullpen.
This season has been no different for the “bury me a Royal” Duffy, who has spent time in both roles. Duffy has been much more confident and focused this season, which is indicated by his 2.13 ERA.
The hope has always been there that Danny Duffy could blossom into a reliable pitcher for the Royals.
Duffy has appeared in 18 games so far this season and has now seen two starts. Like Dillon Gee, Duffy was thrown into the rotation due to the injuries to Medlen and Young, but he hasn’t let that shake his confidence.
Duffy started against the White Sox on Saturday and was on a pitch-count. He went four scoreless innings and was able to give the Royals a good start (despite not being a “quality” start).
The hope has always been there that Danny Duffy could blossom into a reliable pitcher for the Royals. He has the competitive nature within him and that shows when he’s on the mound. If he can keep his confidence level up and just keep his command in check, we could be in for a nice season from Duffy this year.
