Chiefs on the Cusp of Greatness – Number 1: Justin Houston

Justin Houston has all of the potential in the world. He’s only entering his sixth season in the NFL and has become a household name during that short time.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Houston’s highlight of his career came during the 2014 season, when he broke Derrick Thomas’ record for all-time sacks in the franchise. He came half a sack shy of breaking Michael Strahan‘s all-time sack record too, which just shows that when Justin Houston is on, he’s ON.

The main thing holding Houston back from that “cusp” of greatness is that he’s injury prone. He’s missed ten games in the past three seasons, all due to injury. He also is in jeopardy of missing the entire 2016 season, but it’s been said that he should be good to go and might not even miss any time at all.

Personally, Justin Houston is my favorite Chief. I have his jersey and I even bought it before he became a dominant sack master. Watching Houston reminds me of Derrick Thomas at times, but he has a long way to go before reaching that point.

Do I think that Houston can become of the best Chiefs linebackers in franchise history? Absolutely. Do I think he’s close to it yet? No.

Let’s hope that Justin Houston can come back and kick butt in 2016 and prove that he’s past the cusp of greatness, and onto greatness itself.
