Pitching Staff Has Wicked Stuff

Last season the Royals pitching staff averaged 7.2 Ks/9 innings of work. So far this season they are averaging a whopping 10.8 Ks/9 over the first five games. The Twins helped them out in that regard again (that team is in trouble).

Let’s take a look at some of the Royals’ individual pitchers and see what they’re on pace to do this season. Will the seemingly inhuman Wade Davis be human this year?

He’s on pace to pitch 97.2 innings this year, but there is no way he’ll come close to that number. He pitched 67.1 innings last season and allowed a whopping 53 base runners.

More from Kansas City Royals

This season he’s on pace to allow 130.13 runners on base between hits, walks, and hit batters. He’s also on pace to strand all of them which will leave the fans feeling like they did against the Blue Jays at the end of game six.

Joakim Soria has certainly drawn the ire of Royals’ fans in his early return. But he’s also striking out a whopping 20.3 batters per nine innings of work.

If he continues at this pace, he’s set to strike out 191.33 hitters in only 86.1 innings. He’s also on pace to give up a boatload of runs. Let’s hope the ERA comes down at the same rate as his strikeout rate.
