I was shocked to see a city transformed. While Kansas City has always been full of hustle and bustle, something was different. People were walking around with an energy unlike anything I’d ever seen in Kansas City.

Everywhere I went, a sea of blue shirts, hats, signs, and fountains were waiting for me. I slowly started to realize that something very special was occurring.

If only for a brief time, the entire city was united in a common goal. Put simply, nothing else mattered. It didn’t matter who you were voting for in the next election, what your religion was, or that the Chiefs were 1-5 (which they were at the time).

More from Kansas City Royals

When the Royals won the World Series, that unity magnified into something even more spectacular. While my plane left before the parade, I still got to witness some more of that unity.

Standing in line for an hour at Rally House the next morning to pay for a shirt, I looked around as people waited in line for their items.

Some had a little and some had a lot. No one seemed in a hurry to get through the line and waited patiently. Strangers talked to each other about their experience the night before and laughter and smiles abounded.

I watched online as the parade took place. Nearly double the population of Kansas City showed up and united in blue. My heart swelled with pride at my city and exploded when Jonny Gomes dropped the mic.

All of you great fans, made something incredible happen during that parade and in the days and weeks leading up to it. Don’t think for a second the Royals didn’t take notice.
