Best First Round Picks by the Chiefs – Number 11: Bill Maas (Chiefs defensive tackle from 1984-1992)

Hailing from Pittsburgh University, Bill Maas was the Chiefs’ fifth overall pick in the 1984 NFL Draft. He went on to play for the team for nine seasons and two Pro Bowl nods (1986 and 1987) and was named All-Pro in the same years.

Maas had a hell of a career in Kansas City, and it all began during his rookie season. Maas was named NFL Defensive Rookie Player of the Year with five sacks in 14 starts.

Maas spent time at nose tackle and at defensive end during his nine years in Kansas City, and excelled wherever the team put him at. He finished his Chiefs career with 40 sacks, two touchdowns, and two safeties.

He departed the team after the 1992 season and spent one season with the Green Bay Packers before calling it a career after 1993. Maas worked with FOX Sports for 12 years after retiring. According to Wikipedia, Bill Maas now works in real estate, but he also appears on 610 Sports Radio to discuss the Chiefs during the NFL regular season.
