Kansas City Chiefs: Five Underrated Free Agents to Target
Number Four Underrated Free Agent – Chris Long
Chris Long being on this list is a tad surprising, as he used to be one of the best defensive ends in the league. After two years of injuries, Long struggled to be that once dominant defensive stud and was released by the Rams just a few weeks ago.
He’s only played in 18 games in two seasons and has totaled just four sacks in those two years. He also could be one of the more pricier under the radar free agents.
Long, a former second overall pick, has amassed 54.5 sacks in his eight year career (all with the Rams) and had 195 tackles. He also forced eight fumbles.
Long is probably one of the bigger names on this list due to his high draft pick years ago (2008) and due to being Howie Long‘s son, but he could be a good fit in the Chiefs defense.
This is a team that could be losing guys like Mike DeVito and Jaye Howard, and will need guys to step in and keep up the pace of this tough Chiefs defense.
The reason Long is lower on this list than expected is because he has struggled with injuries the past two years and it’s really hurt his production. He’s only played in 18 games in two seasons and has totaled just four sacks in those two years. He also could be one of the more pricier under the radar free agents.
If the Chiefs can get Long for fairly cheap on a short-term deal, then they shouldn’t hesitate to sign him. If not, it’s probably not worth the risk.
