The KC Royals have a lot of players on their team who didn’t make this list. But does it really matter?

There is nothing wrong with the Royals only having five players on this list from MLB Network. In fact, it’s kind of nice that they have so many.

The Royals don’t need to be a part of any list to be successful other than the one Ned Yost pens before each game. As long as this group of players remembers to play the game with a ‘win at all costs’ attitude, they’ll be just fine.

The Royals have a few other players who could have made this list, but were left off for one reason or another.

Mike Moustakas had a breakout season in 2015. He’s only going to be 27 this season and there’s no reason to expect he’ll regress now. He figured out how to use the entire field in 2015 and kept his power game intact as well. He may have been snubbed this season, but perhaps another good year and another World Series’ ring could put him on the map next time around.

Yordano Ventura probably doesn’t belong on this list because of how his 2015 season started out. If he can continue his career as he did in the second-half of last season, he’ll make a strong push to make the list next season. Hopefully, this year he’ll be the ‘Ace’ he was labeled heading into last season.

Alcides Escobar is probably never going to make a list like this one. He doesn’t hit home runs and he doesn’t display the power that people who make lists like this one like to see. That doesn’t mean he’s not a great player. People don’t just win ALCS MVP awards by accident. His stellar brand of defense and spark from the top of the lineup had the Royals clicking last season.

Young players like Kyle Zimmer, Bubba Starling, and Raul Mondesi Jr wait in the wings of the Minor Leagues but could make some kind of impact this season. Maybe someday they’ll make this list. The Royals will likely need some of them to be big contributors if they look to continue their recent string of success beyond 2017.
