The KC Royals have extended General Manager Dayton Moore and Head Coach Ned Yost. Savvy business moves and coaching will remain in Kansas City beyond the 2016 season.

The KC Royals brought Dayton Moore into the picture back in the summer of 2006. At the time, the KC Royals had a win-loss record of 15-43. They were on pace for their third consecutive season of 100 losses or more.

Since then, the Royals have not lost 100 games, but it hasn’t necessarily been an easy road for Dayton Moore. He went through coaches Buddy Bell and Trey Hillman before finally landing Ned Yost. While Yost’s first three seasons culminated in losing records, his last three seasons have been nothing short of spectacular.

Yost has had his share of doubters over the years. He struggled to earn respect when coaching for the Brewers even after leading them to the playoffs. In 2008, the Brewers were playoff-bound for the first time since 1982 and Yost was released with 12 games left in the regular season. He’s grown a lot since then and it’s paid dividends for the Royals.

The Kansas City Star tweeted the following just a short while ago announcing the extensions:

The article attached written by Royals’ beat writer Rustin Dodd indicates that Ned Yost will be brought back at least through the 2018 season. That gives the Royals at least three more years of Ned Yost adding to his managerial wins. He already leads all Royals’ skippers with 468 total wins in his career with the Royals.

Dayton Moore’s extension is still undisclosed, but at least an extension means he’ll be around beyond 2016. Look for Moore’s extension numbers to be updated once released.

Here are a few more twitter reactions to the extensions:

With the Royals having put to rest any doubt about what lies ahead for the 2017 season, they can now fully focus on attempting to repeat as World Champions.

More from Kansas City Royals

With Ned Yost at the helm, they have a coach who understands what it takes to create a winning culture. His non-meddlesome approach gives the players a sense of commitment and they know they’ll be allowed to just play ball.

With Dayton Moore taking care of the business side of things, the Royals are sure to see more bargain-bin reclamation projects and undervalued free agents acquisitions. Usually when Dayton Moore takes on a project, it renders positive results for the KC Royals.

Baseball is officially underway Royals’ fans. Pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training today and now the Royals have gone ahead and extended two important pieces that will help them maintain their excellence.
