Jason Vargas: Steamer Projection – Three Starts

If Jason Vargas can make three regular season starts for the Royals in 2016 it would be a pretty quick comeback from Tommy John’s surgery.

Three starts may turn out to be a welcome relief to the Royals by the end of the 2016 season. Every season there is a need for pitching depth and someone usually has to step-up due to injury.

If Vargas get’s a chance to make a couple of starts in late September, it may show the Royals enough to put him on the playoff roster if there’s a need for that.

More from Kansas City Royals

Vargas has been a steady pitcher for the Royals in his short time in blue and white. It’s unfortunate that he got injured when he did, but had he not suffered that injury, Ventura may not have rebounded from his rough start.

Vargas is quietly one of the Royals better pitchers. He doesn’t do anything great, but he generally turns in a good performance for the Royals. He’ll at least give them a shot to compete in almost every outing.

With any luck, and some quality work from the training staff, Vargas will suit up for the Royals this season as more than just a bench warmer.
