Kansas City Royals: Two Years or Three Months
By Paul York
Common sense says re-building is much easier if you have a strong foundation.
To that point, the Royals “foundation” is ranked 23rd out of 30. The easiest way to bulk that foundation up is to deal valuable players who aren’t necessarily rentals.
The Royals gave up a lot for Cueto and Zobrist. They would’ve had to give up more had they tried to make those trades a year earlier.

So, I return to the doomsday scenario, that really isn’t that far-fetched, of the Royals being out of the race at the midway point. If it were me, guys like Hosmer, Moustakas and Cain would be dangled for the biggest hauls I could get. Not just one of them. All three of them.
Essentially, it will come down to Moore deciding between trying to squeeze one more competitive season in, or accelerating the clock on a rebuilding project. Tough call, and a tough sell to a baseball community that was starved of success for so long.
The first few months of 2016 will tell the true story of that window of opportunity. I pray the boys in blue come out with a chip on their shoulder to go with that target on their backs.
