Keep if the price is right

Sean Smith (Cornerback)

Sean Smith has had another great season and is due for a big a payday. With ten career interceptions, and five of those coming in the three years that he played for Kansas City, Sean Smith has played at a very high level.

With the return of Phillip Gaines and rookie Steven Nelson on the team, I believe that Sean Smith will have too high of a price to be in a Chiefs’ uniform next season and beyond. I don’t think we will be seeing him in red and yellow next year, to be honest.

Jaye Howard (Defensive End)

Jaye Howard would be a good steal if we can get him to help Dontari Poe on the line.

In 2015 Howard had a breakthrough season with five and a half sacks. Howard has good run stopping skills and is relentless on every down. He was a threat on every play no matter who the opponent was.

More from Chiefs Free Agency

It is very possible that the Chiefs will be able to keep Howard, and Terez Paylor of The Kansas City Star even tweeted out that the two sides have been talking. The fact of the matter is, that this was his second productive season but he still didn’t at a level that warrants a big payday.

I think that this is one of the more likely re-signs, but only if the price is right.

Husain Abdullah (Free Safety)

Husain Abdullah has been a good safety for Kansas City, and I think that it would be nice to keep him in Kansas City.

As history has shown, teams can’t keep everyone and I believe that will be the case with Abdullah. Unless he gives a hometown discount, Abdullah re-signing is not something I see happening.

With 24 solo tackles on the season, he has been a consistent presence on the field. That would be hard to replace out of a back-up, but with free-agency and the draft I believe that he’s on his way out.
