KC Royals News: Sal Perez and Looking Ahead
KC Royals news from the last couple of days includes re-structuring Salvador Perez’ contract, predicting next season, and more.
The KC Royals have one of the top catchers in the league in Salvador Perez and have the luxury to have signed him to an extremely cheap deal when you compare the dollar amount to his production. Perez is worth about quintuple what he is making right now and most believe that he is interested in staying with the Royals for the duration of his career.
Perez is now 25 and is one of the vocal leaders in the club house for the defending champion Royals and keeping him happy should be general manager Dayton Moore’s top priority for the rest of the off-season.
Other news from around the baseball world includes Ian Kennedy signing showing that the Royals’ front office is exhausting all options to bring another MLB World Championship to Kansas City. The Royals have never really spent much money on free agents, as they are one of the smallest markets in the entire MLB and they just simply don’t have the tens of millions of dollars to shell out to top free agents.
Kennedy’s contract is worth 5-years, $70 million, the richest free agent contract in the history of the franchise. Kennedy will likely be in the top two slots in the pitching rotation depending on how much Ventura improves this off-season.
The 2016 season should be a fun one, my friends.
Let’s take a look at some KC Royals news and notes from around the internet:

Salvador Perez Contract: Latest News and Rumors on Negotiations with Royals
"In 2012, the Royals signed Perez to what became one of the most team-friendly contracts in baseball. He’ll earn $7 million through the first five years, and after that, he has three club-option years worth a combined $14.75 million, per Baseball-Reference.com.According to Spotrac, Buster Posey earns the highest annual base salary for a catcher at $20 million, just to put into perspective how great a deal the Royals are getting for a three-time All-Star and World Series MVP."
KC Royals: The “No Superstar” Narrative Is A Joke
KC Royals Looking to Rework Salvador Perez’ Contract
"Maybe extending and reworking Perez’ contract does not seem like a priority. After all, he is under team control through 2019 and the Royals could theoretically use upgrades in right and in the bullpen. Perez has also had quite the hefty workload over the past three years, catching more games than anyone else in that time frame. Although he is only 25, it may be fair to wonder how long he will be able to hold up under such a workload going forward."
What’s next for the Royals this off-season?
"The Royals have reportedly open competition up at second base between Omar Infante and Christian Colon, so it seems unlikely the Royals will bring someone else in the mix. Infante has struggled at the plate for two years in a row, and the Royals got the least offensive production in the league at second base. However the Royals may be willing to let him play solid defense and hope the bat can rebound a bit, or they may give 26-year old World Series hero Christian Colon a chance despite concerns about his defense."
