KC Chiefs News: New OC and Andy Reid Comments
KC Chiefs news from the last couple of days includes Brad Childress and Matt Nagy being named co-offensive coordinators, Andy Reid says clock management was good against Pats, and more.
The KC Chiefs announced that Brad Childress and Matt Nagy will share the duty of offensive coordinator as co-coordinators.
This is pretty rare, as you don’t see it happen much at the NFL level. Childress is the bigger name of the two. He was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings for five seasons and is known as a very knowledgeable offensive mind. Nagy has been the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach over the past three years.
In other news, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was quoted saying that the clock management was good at the end of the Patriots game. If you don’t remember, Alex Smith and the Chiefs offense actually huddled inside the Pats’ 10-yard line with under two minutes to go in the game, down 14. This was just one of about ten instances on the drive where Smith and the offense looked way slow.
Reid says this was good time management?
This off-season the Chiefs need to bolster their offensive line. It is probably the biggest weakness the Chiefs have and if fixed, we could see Alex Smith look to throw the ball more than scramble like he did a bunch this last season. A couple of the starters have expired contracts and the Chiefs could decide to look elsewhere heading forward.

"The Chiefs’ depth at guard is OK with Ben Grubbs, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Zach Fulton. But because they might lose starter Jeff Allen to free agency, a move inside could still make some sense for Reid, who also provides protection in case the Chiefs lose versatile swing tackle Donald Stephenson to free agency."

"“I think clock management’s very important,” Reid said, via Pro Football Talk. “Every situation’s different. It’s a fluid situation on the spot and you’ve got to go off of feel … This situation, I think, was handled right.”“I thought we handled it right,” Reid said. “You give us a minute on the clock and three timeouts, we feel like we can move the ball pretty good.”"
Chiefs name Brad Childress, Matt Nagy co-coordinators
This off-season is huge for the Chiefs, especially with the amount of free agents they have on the defensive side of the ball. What John Dorsey and the rest of the front office decide to do will go a long way in showing what we should expect from the team next season.
