KC Chiefs Biggest 2015 Disappointments – Number 1: Knile Davis

The biggest disappointment of the 2015 season for the Kansas City Chiefs was running back Knile Davis. In a season where Jamaal Charles went down in week five, Davis was never able to make an impact for the Chiefs and was actually inactive for several games.

Davis, taken by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, appeared to look like a solid backup option in his rookie and sophomore seasons. When Charles went down in the Wild Card game against the Colts, Davis stepped in admirably. He also held his own in a week three game when Charles was inactive in 2014.

Davis ended the 2015 season with only 72 rushing yards and a touchdown, which he earned in week two. He only amassed 24 yards receiving off two receptions.

So, what happened? Why did the team who drafted this guy in the third round just a few years ago, opt to go with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware in the backfield rather than Davis?

Andy Reid claimed Davis was inactive for the second game against the Broncos due to Spencer Ware and Saalim Hakim being the more talented special teams players (this according to Terez Paylor from The Kansas City Star).

Davis ended the 2015 season with only 72 rushing yards and a touchdown, which he earned in week two. He only amassed 24 yards receiving off two receptions.

I considered moving Davis down this list when he had the HUGE kick return for a touchdown against the Texans in the playoffs, but the following week, he lost a critical fumble in Foxborough. That fumble was brutal because the Chiefs were driving and looked to be getting back into the thick of things.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Davis has struggled with fumbles frequently in both his college and pro career, and it killed this team against the Patriots. Now it wasn’t all his fault that the team lost, but that fumble took all of the momentum away.

It would not be surprising in the least bit if the Chiefs and Davis parted ways this offseason. He’d likely get some interest from other teams due to his young age (he’s only 24). Maybe the Chiefs can get a draft pick out of it.
