The Ugly: Time Management

If there’s been one poor aspect to Andy Reid‘s coaching, it would without a doubt be time management. The last two and a half minutes of this game was a prime example of that.

With less than three minutes to go in the game, the Chiefs had first and goal and could have easily ran another play before the two minute warning hit. Instead, Kansas City elected to let the time run down all the way to the two minute warning despite having all three of their timeouts. Unbelievable.

The Chiefs went on to punch the ball in the end zone, but they only had 1:13 left on the clock when Charcandrick West scored. While the Chiefs probably wouldn’t have been able to win regardless of having more time on the clock, this is still an area that Reid needs to work on.

This particular touchdown did make the game look a lot closer than it really was, but still… Why with all three timeouts remaining would you let 30 seconds run off the clock? It doesn’t make any sense to me, but hey… I’m not an NFL coach. Maybe Reid knows something I don’t.

Hopefully this isn’t an issue next season, but I won’t hold my breath.

A case could have been made to put Knile Davis under bad or ugly due to that fumble he had in the third quarter. The Chiefs were driving and Davis, trying to get extra yardage, fumbled the ball and the Pats recovered it. Bummer, man.
