Royals Rumors: Five Pitchers To Target In Free Agency

Surprisingly the lone San Diego Padre on this list is not James Shields. Shields is simply too expensive for the Royals’ blood, and if they’re going to drop a lot of money on anyone, I’d prefer it be on Alex Gordon.

Ian Kennedy, on the other hand, is a more affordable option and is someone I suggested the Royals should target a few weeks back.
Kennedy isn’t a super star. He had a 4.28 ERA in 30 starts last season with a 9-15 record and pitched a total of 168.1 innings during that time. He’s an innings eater and could be a very good fourth or fifth guy in this Royals rotation.
Kennedy seems to be linked mostly with National League teams at the moment (Marlins seem to be the one listed most), but the Royals could still sneak in and offer him some sort of deal. Kennedy rejected the qualifying offer from the Padres last month so he clearly wants to head somewhere else.
Kansas City is somewhere else Ian. Come over to the good side.
