1) Defense

Aside from some early season hiccups, this Chiefs defense has given fans something to be thankful for. In the past two weeks, the Chiefs’ D has only allowed opponents to score 16 points. That’s pretty dang good.

A lot of the early season struggles could be placed on the secondary, as Sean Smith was serving a suspension in the first three weeks and his backups were not on his level at all. Marcus Peters, a rookie out of Washington and the Chiefs’ first round pick this year, has been terrific. He’s had four interceptions all year and two of them were off of Peyton Manning.

Then we move onto guys like Justin Houston and Tamba Hali, both who have held up their end of the deal. Houston signed a monster contract this past summer, but has lived up to it, notching seven and a half sacks, two interceptions, and one pick six. Hali has also been nothing short of brilliant with five and a half sacks and one forced fumble.

Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito both have had bounce back years as well, and guys like Allen Bailey and Ramik Wilson have stepped up this year too. Dontari Poe is also performing at a high level recently despite having two back surgeries during the summer.

In other words, this Chiefs defense is just getting started. They held Philip Rivers to less than 200 yards passing and kept him out of the end zone. If they continue to play at the level they have been, opposing offenses better watch out.
