Opponent: Green Bay Packers
Record: 2-0 (1-0 at home; 1-0 on road)
Best Player: Aaron Rodgers, QB
Sleeper: James Starks, RB
Most Interesting Match-up: Chiefs secondary vs. Green Bay receivers (minus Jordy Nelson)
Something you didn’t know: The Chiefs are 3-0 all-time at Lambeau during the regular season, and 7-3-1 all-time against Green Bay.
We’ve already established the Packers are going to be tough to beat — especially at home.
Despite losing their No. 2 receiver (who plays like most team’s No. 1 guy) Jordy Nelson to a season-ending injury, the Packers are still one of the top passing teams in the NFL (thanks to Rodgers).
Even if running back Eddie Lacy, who has been upgraded to probable after a Week 2 injury, doesn’t play, veteran backup James Starks can do a nice job filling in. He had 20 carriers for 95 yards after replacing Lacy last week.
James Jones, who returned to Green Bay this year after a two-season absence to replace Nelson, has just five receptions, but three have gone for scores. Even though he has been battling a shoulder injury, top wideout Randall Cobb still has team highs of 13 receptions and 154 yards.
The point is the offense comes at you from all angles, and it’s tough to stop.
The defense, while okay, is not going to scare an opponent as much as the offense.
It revolves around linebacker Clay Matthews, who has yet to record a sack but does have an interception. Second-year safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix leads the team in tackles, which isn’t a great sign for a defense.
The offense certainly makes the Packers go, and the Chiefs can’t keep up the same pace with Green Bay. The biggest factor could be Charles. If he can run the ball effectively, and Kansas City can keep the defense on the field, that will be the biggest key to stopping the offense.
