The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t see the Texans again until three years later.

A lot had changed for both teams since that game in 2007. For one, the Texans were now a decent team. Matt Schaub was a good quarterback for the young franchise, and Houston was certainly trending upwards.

Second, the Chiefs had changed drastically as well. Matt Cassel had been acquired by Kansas City in 2009, and he was rolling with the Chiefs in 2010. By the time their match-up with the Texans arrived in week four of the 2010 season, the Chiefs were sitting at 3-1 and fans were loving life.

Kansas City, however, faced a tough task when traveling to Houston in week five, yet kept things competitive throughout.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Cassel hit Mike Vrabel (haha what) with a two-yard pass in the first quarter, but Houston struck right back. Schaub got the ball to Joel Dreessen in the end zone and things were tied up at Reliant Stadium.

Cassel found Dwayne Bowe in the end zone twice to make it a 21-7 KC lead, but the Texans came storming back. Derrick Ward ran 38 yards for a score and after a Ryan Succop field goal, Arian Foster also had a rushing touchdown. Kansas City’s lead was down to three points.

After the Chiefs went up by ten on a Thomas Jones touchdown, Houston still wouldn’t quit. Foster found the end zone again, and Schaub tossed the game winning touchdown in the last minute of the game (an 11 yard pass to Andre Johnson) to give Houston the win.

This was a game where the Chiefs impressed me despite losing. They looked competitive all game long, and only trailed in the final minute.

Matt Cassel looked fantastic, going 20 of 29 for 201 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t throw any picks. Schaub was the better quarterback on the day though, throwing for two scores and over 300 yards.

Houston was winning the series three games to two, but the 2010 season was a bright one for Kansas City. They went 10-6 and won the AFC West for the first time in seven years. They went on to lose in the Wildcard round against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Texans weren’t great in 2010 despite being on the right track. They started the year off strong, but finished at 6-10.
