In their second year in the NFL, the Texans saw the KC Chiefs for the first time when they hosted them at Reliant Stadium early on in the 2003 season. Houston still had their former number one overall pick David Carr under center, and they now had their third overall pick from 03’s draft Andre Johnson in the passing game as well.
The Chiefs had Trent Green as their quarterback and one of the best offensive lines in the league. That opened things up for Priest Holmes to put the first points up on the day when he had a six-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Houston was able to tie things up in the second quarter when Carr hit Johnson with a 43 yard touchdown pass to make it a 7-7 game.
It was all Kansas City for the rest of the game though.
The Chiefs went on to put up 35 unanswered points in a game where Green didn’t even look his best. The former KC quarterback went 16 of 28 for 262 yards, one touchdown (a 15 yard pass to Eddie Kennison) and two interceptions.
Carr threw for 167 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Holmes had two touchdowns on the day, Kennison had the one from Green, Dante Hall returned a punt 73 yards for a score, and Shaunard Harts had a 39-yard pick six off of David Carr.
This game put the Chiefs at 3-0 in 2003, and thus began the Chiefs/Texans history in the NFL.
The 2003 season saw the Chiefs going 13-3 and losing in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs against the Colts in the famous “no punt game”. The Texans finished the year at 5-11.
