KC Royals: Who Will Be Odd Man Out Of Playoff Rotation

Despite looking solid in his few starts this season, I just don’t think Kris Medlen has had enough time (as of now) to prove that he is postseason starter material for the Royals. Medlen is coming off of two Tommy John surgeries, and didn’t join the Royals until about midway through the season.

Medlen didn’t have a good outing on Friday night against Chicago, but he still has been pretty dang good for the Royals. If he does indeed miss the cut for the rotation, expect Medlen to serve as a long reliever out of the bullpen along with Chris Young.
There is still a chance for Medlen to make it, but as of now, the advantage goes to Danny Duffy. There was a time when it was between Duffy, Medlen, and Ventura, but Ventura has more than made up for it in his past five starts.
I would feel confident having Medlen come out of the bullpen should a starter struggle or get injured during a game. Expect that to be his role come playoffs.
