FANTASY FOOTBALL TIGHT ENDS NUMBER 15: CHARLES CLAY

Buffalo has $38 million reasons to be excited for new Bill Charles Clay to settle into the Bills’ scheme. Ignoring the price tag for a moment, he’s coming off two productive seasons with the Dolphins in which he caught 127 passes for 1,364 yards and nine touchdowns.

  • He is heading to a team with an offensive coordinator (Greg Roman, formerly of the 49ers) that places more emphasis on the tight end position. Given the physical and psychological limitations of the Bills three-headed trainwreck at quarterback, we should expect more tight end dump and pray plays.

Sure, Matt Cassel isn’t a great quarterback (assuming he earns the starting gig there), but Chiefs fans know that Cassel is more than capable of producing long passing plays. Clay will be one of his favorite targets and fantasy owners should reap the benefits of picking the former Miami Dolphin up.

Receptions and yardage should see a boost to 70 catches for 700 yards range, but it would be hard to count on touchdowns coming in any more than five in 2015.

Clay likely won’t be a starting tight end in smaller leagues, but he could be a solid number two option or bye-week fill-in for favorable matchups.
