Pitcher. San Diego Padres. Ian Kennedy. 22. player. 127.

Ian Kennedy isn’t exactly a huge name, but he’d still be a decent pick-up for the Royals should they decide to add another arm. With a 4.58 ERA and a 6-9 record in 18 starts, Kennedy has the tools to be a back-end of the rotation guy with a solid veteran presence.

Adam Wells of Bleacher Report wrote up a post on Kennedy possibly going to the Toronto Blue Jays (who obviously haven’t acquired him… yet) and wrote that while Kennedy’s numbers aren’t terrific, he might just need a change of scenery in order to succeed.

I feel like Kennedy could be a better version of Jeremy Guthrie, and he’s only signed through this season in San Diego on a $9.85 million deal.

"The 30-year-old still misses bats at a good rate (8.3 per nine innings, per Baseball-Reference.com) and may just need a change of scenery. He’s certainly not at Cueto’s level, but the Blue Jays may feel their offense can offset some third- or fourth-tier starters."

Consider this an unlikely addition, as Kennedy likely wouldn’t be in the starting rotation for the playoffs. A lot to potentially give up for a guy who won’t play a direct part in the future.
